The U.S. avoided a recession in 2023. Here's what experts are predicting for 2024
Recap: The anticipated recession in 2023 did not materialize for the U.S. economy. Analysts are now suggesting the potential for a gentle slowdown or mild recession in 2024.
My Take: Unless you lose your job, a recession won’t have a massive of impact on you personally. But, take this time as an opportunity to:
- Review and reevaluate your budget
- Review debt (Important: keep credit card utilization below 30%)
- Check 401K/IRA/Retirement contributions for next year
- Create and/or beef up your emergency fund (up to six months + investments)

2024 Forecasts
Breaking Down Housing Economist's Forecasts
Recap: Housing experts anticipate lower mortgage rates in 2024, with expectations ranging from 7.6% in the first quarter to 6.05% in the final quarter. While forecasts universally predict a rise in home sales, opinions differ on whether sales will surpass 2023 levels, and experts foresee continued high home prices with only modest relief expected in the coming year.
My Take: Rates will continue to decline, with a meaningful drop to come in the summer. We will have a very healthy spring selling and buying market. The key to be an effective buyer or seller is to get prepared now, before things get very busy and move at a pace you are not comfortable. The goal should always be to be educated and informed well in advance to make the best decision for your short- and long-term goals.

A Farewell to 2023
From the Carmody Family
As 2023 comes to an end, I want to take a moment and look back on all there was to celebrate. First off, it was a great year for family. Great year for friends. And certainly, one of the most challenging years that I’ve had in business.
We had our lowest production since 2010.
But I’m excited to do a bit of course correction in 2024, seeing as how we’ve had a nice bullish run in interest rates the last couple weeks.
So yes, I’m excited for my business and I’m excited for my family. I’m looking at doing a destination ocean swim race in 2024. I also plan on taking some longer three-day weekend trips with my family to do some skiing this winter. Lot’s to look forward to!
