Fall is officially here!
Time to put your garden to bed and do a little proactive maintenance so you can enjoy the pumpkin patches and turning of the leaves.
In the Garden
- Late September through mid-October is the perfect time to plant, divide and replant! Plant trees and evergreen shrubs without worry of them being scorched by the sun and with plenty of water at hand for those of us in rainy climates. Now is also the time to plant tulips, daffodils, and other spring bulbs and to divide and replant your perennials. Make sure to get them cozy for the winter with a layer of mulch.
- Clean and store your hand tools and pots so they’ll be ready for action come spring. Camellia oil works wonders on keeping pruning tools rust free.
- Cover and secure patio furniture. Don’t forget your patio umbrella and grill!
Around the House
- Clean out your gutters.
- Prune your trees away from power lines and your home.
- Corral and test your flashlights and LED lanterns and put them in easy to find locations with extra batteries and charged power banks in case of a power outage.
- Test all smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Make sure you have extra batteries on hand.
